Chapter 3: The Andy Years
Andy Sears
A certain edition of the Nightmoves claims that Geoff Mann guested on vocals with Andy Sears during the encore, Love Song. Another guest appearance in 1984 is not mentioned anywhere, so the photo of Geoff and Andy below, might have been taken at 3 March 1984.
New Songs
Between March and July, some new songs were written: Blue Powder Monkey, Barriers, Take A Look, and Counterpoint. Also, the music from Not On The Map (which was re-written and turned into Deep In The Heartland) got new lyrics by Andy Sears and was now called Blondon Fair. Barriers did have lyrics when it was rehearsed. It didn't sound right, and after the one and only performance at the Dominion (G-277, 20 July 1984), it was never played again. Fortunately, this performance has been captured on tape by someone in the audience. The tape is available on the tape trading market.
The New Album
Shame was released as a single, before the album was released. For the occasion, an extended re-mix was done. No extra recordings were necessary, as they simply repeated some lines or choruses. It was called Shame(Ful Mix).
Gigs
A new album often implies touring to promote it. There was no support from the record company, and the band toured less than ever.
The End
Andy Sears was disappointed by the lack of success and support, and decided to leave. Clive Mitten got into some money, and left the band to start a recording studio. A replacement was hard to find, but Martyn Watson, originally a guitar player, took over both bass playing and singing. Some new tracks were written and demoed. These were sent to the record company, who thought the songs were very good. However, due to a change in record company personnel, Twelfth Night's contact left and Virgin decided to drop the band, who were informed of this by means of a letter to Clive, who by then had already left the band!
