Credits
Recorded at Revolution Studios, Cheadle Hulme, Chesire, England, Summer 1982. Engineered by Stuart Rickering, Johnny Gluck, and Pablo. Produced by Twelfth Night and Andy MacPherson. Tape effects remixed at Twilight Studios, Salford, England, with engineer Frank Walsh.

Info
The band made contact with the owner of Revolution Studios, and decided to record the new album there. The man was a fan of The Beatles, and spent a lot of time recording and mixing Eleanor Rigby, as was released on the Eleanor Rigby single. The band was not happy with how things are going, and decided to buy the publishing rights back from Revolution Studios, and release the album themselves.

Artwork
As with Smiling At Grief, Geoff did all the artwork for the album. The LP sleeve (TN-006), shown above, was printed white on black, the tape cover (TN-005), shown left, black on white. Note that the designs are different.

The inside of the fold-out sleeve includes the lyrics to all the songs, plus some drawings made by Geoff. From left to right, these drawings are printed next to the lyrics of Human Being, Fact And Fiction, and Love Song.

The drawings for Human Being and Love Song are both a mix of two other drawings. The lower two drawings are the originals that were cut up and mixed with two other drawings. The drawings have been cut in strips and spread out, the space in between filled with another drawing in the background. These latter drawings were not cut, so removing the top layer, does not leave a lot of the background drawings. These background drawings are drawings like the front covers of the tape and album, but are not the same.

Worth noting here is the hat that the skeleton is wearing in the middle picture (printed on the album sleeve next to the lyrics of Fact And Fiction). It's a high hat with a broken heart and question mark on it. During performances of the song The Collector (between June and November 1983), Geoff is wearing a high hat just like that, with a broken heart and question mark.

Poland
When I was in Poland, I found two different Polish cassette releases of Fact And Fiction. I don't know whether the record companies really has a legal license or not. The first has a cover that states no record company information whatsoever. The cover is the same as TN-005.
The second is release by a comapny called Elbo, cat# 1466. The front cover (picture on the right) is a compressed print of the CD cover (black on white), and it has not further details or credits on the cover than the song titles.

Re-releases
When French label MSI Distribution wanted to re-issue Fact And Fiction on CD, they did talk to Brian about it, but, as was the case with their Live At The Target re-issue, released it before a formal contract was made and signed. The cover was a negative of the LP print, ie. black on white, as shown on the left.
The CD includes no bonus tracks. Why not, I don't know. If MSI had taken some more time to talk to Brian, I am sure they would have had some extra things to put on the CD, like songs on the Eleanor Rigby single.

The songs We Are Sane and Creepshow from this release are included on the compilation album Collectors Item.

After a long time, it is finally there: a widely available re-issue with bonus tracks(Cyclops CYCL-113, released 2002-08)!

Eleanor Rigby and East Of Eden are taken from the Eleanor Rigbysingle, so at long last have a proper place on cd now.

The other tracks are demo recordings from the time when the album was recorded, ie. somewhere in 1982.
